Job Description

Our client is a growing pump manufacturing and engineering company located in New Haven. We are seeking a Welder to join the team. This person is responsible for various types of weld preparation, GTAW & GMAW-P welding, and weld finishing operations to manufacture products according to blueprints and specifications.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Use TIG or MIG Pulse welding processes to weld stainless steel components of 304 and 316 metal products.
  • Must be able to interpret drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, and tolerances.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
  • Set up and operate hand and power tools, such as angle grinder, TIG welder and gas metal arc welding equipment.
  • Select proper filler rods according to base metal specifications.
  • Grind or cut edges of workpieces to be joined to ensure snug fit, using angle grinders and hand tools.
  • Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials.
  • Able to perform daily work safely with full consideration for fellow employees and in full compliance with OSHA safety standards.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Welding certificates a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in GTAW & GMAW-P welding forms and reading blueprints.
  • Experience with modular fixturing a plus.
  • Must be able to read a tape measure and perform simple math
  • Can be productive with minimal supervision.
  • Has the ability to learn quickly and advance upon what has been learned.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Requires good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Requires use of Protective or Safety Equipment such as shoes, glasses, gloves, etc.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent sitting, standing, twisting/turning, stooping/bending, repetitive hand/wrist motion and forearm rotation.
  • Occasionally walking, squatting, crawling/kneeling and reaching above.
  • Constantly lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs.
  • Frequently lifting and carrying 11-50 lbs.
  • Occasionally lifting and carrying over 50 lbs.
  • Occasionally pushing/pulling all weights.
  • Constantly doing simple grasping, using fine manipulation and using machinery or tools. Occasionally doing gross grasping.
