Our client is a very large international employer with a facility located in Orange, CT. They are a major manufacturer and distributor in industrial and construction markets. The site is in growth mode and an operation with many new machines purchased, tons of stability, and growth opportunities. They are currently seeking a EHS Specialist.

The EHS Specialist is responsible for providing EHS leadership and guidance to other departments within the facilities, under direction of HR/EHS Manager. They have responsibility for implementing, maintaining, and facilitating continuous Environmental, Health, & Safety objectives and improvements for the Orange plant.
The EHS Specialist provides technical expertise to site leadership in the field of EHS and stays abreast of regulatory requirements, developments and best practices.

The EHS Specialist is responsible for providing EHS leadership and guidance to other departments within the facilities, under direction of HR/EHS Manager. They have responsibility for implementing, maintaining, and facilitating continuous Environmental, Health, & Safety objectives and improvements for the Orange plant.
The EHS Specialist provides technical expertise to site leadership in the field of EHS and stays abreast of regulatory requirements, developments and best practices.
Responsibilities of the role include:

Responsible for developing and implementing EHS Policies and Procedures to continually improve in collaboration with site leadership.

Ensures company methods and procedures for communicating environmental, health, and safety matters to employees are effective, and employee concerns and suggestions receive prompt response by management.

Supports site leaders in establishing and maintaining EHS operational controls and monitoring/measuring processes.

Conducts all EHS training for the site, which includes employees, new hires, temporary workers and outside contractors.

Manages assigned EHS compliance projects in support of corporate and regulatory initiatives.

Completes local, state, and federal reports on a timely basis with collaboration of HR/EHS Manager, which includes, but is not limited to, corporate and regulatory reporting for Work Place Injury Log, GAIA, Environmental and Risk Management Reporting.

Conducts EHS related audits both internal and external, to ensure compliance and monitor for potential issues.

In coordination with HR/EHS Manager, ensures plant activities are compliant with all guidelines required by regulatory authorities. (EPA, OSHA).

Ensures that EHS requirements are implemented and maintained in accordance with ISO 14001 guidelines.

Proactively drives awareness and communicates best practices related to EHS.

Provides active onsite support in the event of employee incident. CPR/AED/First Aid trained is preferred.

Conducts and/or manages incident investigations. Conducts root cause analysis, cause mapping and development of corrective actions.

Coordinates and conducts Safety Pillar Meetings.

Other duties as requested or required by Management.
Required Qualifications
The successful incumbent will have:
-
BS degree is required. Preferably in Safety and/or Environment discipline however we will consider a business degree with appropriate experience.

3+ years experience related EHS experience in a Manufacturing environment.

Working knowledge, and experience of implementing, regulatory agency guidelines and requirements.

Demonstrated ability to successfully lead, train, and instruct others.
-
Ability to collaborate and build relationships with employees at all levels within the organization.
-
Collaboratively coordinates activities to achieve EHS initiatives and objectives.
-
High level of analytical Skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team with a sense of urgency.
-
Ability to professionally and effectively problem solve, and remain calm in, at times, high-stress situations.
-
Excellent communication skills written and oral and analytical skills.
-
Previous project management experience, with ability to design, manage, and implement projects of a technical nature. Able to keep track of multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

Computer literate Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint

Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices.
-
Familiarity and experience with World Class Manufacturing (Lean) methodology.

WCM Green belt certification is preferred.
-
ASP or other Professional EHS Certification is preferred.
