Lead cross functional development teams to create innovative design solutions that will meet customer and company objectives on cost, weight, investment, performance, and timing.
Obtain and verify customer requirements & anticipate customer needs to minimize late changes to the design. Write DFMEA and DVP & R's and conduct the appropriate product analytical analysis (UJ Phasing, tolerance stack-ups, FEA, etc.).
Prepare designs and presentations for customer quote submittals; make customer visits to review engineering proposals and analytical work.
Coordinate prototype build of pilot parts, and participate in pilot vehicle builds at OEM assembly plants.
Review prints and stack-ups with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure designs maximize existing manufacturing processes and capabilities. Select design options that provide the best margins and lowest tooling costs without sacrificing quality. This applies to in-house manufacturing as well as with supply base.
Review designs with Manufacturing Engineering, assist with process development activities and PFMEA.
Develop new features if required for assigned programs. Write DVP & R to validate new features, and work with Test Lab to ensure all testing is completed per project plan timing.
Lead cost, weight, and continuous improvement initiatives on existing products. Ensure engineering changes are written, prints updated, and product modifications implemented within customer timing and obsolescence requirements.
Ensures manufacturing practices are current, consistent and compliant with Policies and Procedures, all external state/federal regulations and customer requirements
