Assembly Technician
Job Description
Looking to work in a clean, technical and safe environment? How about a company that has paid their temporary workforce for snow days when the plant was closed?
Our client is a growing pump manufacturing and engineering company located in New Haven. We are seeking a Assembly Technician to perform a variety of technical job functions related to the assembly of new and returned submersible electric motor driven pumps and pump products. This will include but not limited to, identifying and pulling parts, assembling pumps, performance testing of pumps, prepping for shipment. An Assembly Technician will also need to process appropriate paperwork, maintain serial number and production logs, modify parts, perform facility maintenance and any additional duties as needed.

Our client is a growing pump manufacturing and engineering company located in New Haven. We are seeking a Assembly Technician to perform a variety of technical job functions related to the assembly of new and returned submersible electric motor driven pumps and pump products. This will include but not limited to, identifying and pulling parts, assembling pumps, performance testing of pumps, prepping for shipment. An Assembly Technician will also need to process appropriate paperwork, maintain serial number and production logs, modify parts, perform facility maintenance and any additional duties as needed.
- Pay Rate: $19 per hour
Duties and Responsibilities
- To assemble mechanical and electrical elements of a submersible pump including but not limited to bearings, mechanical seals, lip seals, O-rings, power cable assemblies, impellers, stators, and similar components.
- Perform mechanical inspection utilizing precision instrumentation including micrometers, depth gauges, bore gauges, balancers and similar instrumentation.
- Utilize assembly tools such as torque wrenches, air tools, electric drills, wrenches, screwdrivers, and similar tools.
- Inspect electrical motors and pump wiring using precision electrical instrumentation including volt-ohm meters, meger tester, high pot tester, and other electrical/motor instrumentation.
- To read manuals, mechanical blueprints and similar documentation, translating them into proper assembly procedures and methods.
- Assist with testing performance of completed pumps and products to quality standards utilizing fluid testing and electrical testing equipment.
- Give feedback to the production manager for planning of production schedule.
- Provide technical information to Sales, Engineering and Quality on the performance of the product and potential areas for improvement.
- Work with all functional disciplines in the organization to facilitate meeting production requirements.
- Participate in companywide continuous improvement and similar quality efforts to help grow the operation.
- Able to perform daily work safely with full consideration for fellow employees and in full compliance with OSHA safety standards.
- Duties, responsibilities and activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.
Qualifications
- Preference is a technical school degree in a mechanical, electrical or similar discipline.
- Three to five years experience in a technical manufacturing or similar environment.
- Proficient in mechanical, electrical equipment and manufacturing assembly.
- Ability to use computers and software programs including a plus:
- MS Outlook
- MS Word
- MS Excel
- Has the ability to learn quickly and advance upon what has been learned.
- Strong attention to detail
- Requires good communications and teamwork skills.
- Minimal travel is required.
Physical Requirements
- Constantly standing.
- Occasionally walking, twisting/turning, stooping/bending, squatting and reaching above.
- Frequent repetitive hand/wrist motion and forearm rotation.
- Constantly doing simple grasping, occasionally doing gross grasping. Occasionally doing fine manipulation.
- Constantly using machinery/tools.
- Occasional lifting up to and over 50 lbs., can use the assistance of a hoist or crane.
- Occasional carrying and/or pushing/pulling up to and over 50 lbs., can use the assistance of a pushcart of pallet jack.
- Occasional computer use/typing
